Is MUN participation worth it?

I have participated in 2 MUNs till date. I have an opportunity to participate in 2 more and I want to know whether it is worth just participating.

If you enjoy it, participate. If you think doing it will improve your college app, don’t bother.

I agree with the above poster but I also want to add this. If you’re going into a major where that experience would be useful and you enjoy it, then you should continue.

What would you do instead?

You shouldn’t participate in ECs just to impress adcoms. You should do it because you get something out of it on a personal level. That said, an EC with sustained participation is going to look better than one with limited participation. An EC with leadership and a strong depth of involvement is going to impress more than one with “just participation”.

Model UN was the best extra-curricular activity my kids participated in, but they both were highly motivated and truly enjoyed the conferences. If you are an active participant, you learn many skills that will be valuable later in life.

OK, thank you everyone for the replies. To be honest, I don’t enjoy it too much. I also won’t be having much time in the MUN months, so I guess I won’t be attending then.

@ladyxaim I will be majoring in Mech Engineering, so i don’t think it will be that useful…

@woogzmama I will be studying for SAT Subject Tests.

Once again, thank you all for your opinions.
