Is my ACT and GPA too low to get into my top choices.

Hey guys,

So I’m very worried that I wont get into any of my top schools (I have four favorites) and I was wondering if any one could help me figure out what my chances are. My ACT is only a 30 and my GPA is only a 4.33 weighted, I also I took all IB classes. I’m the Editor in Chief of my school newspaper, the leader of an IB after school tutoring program, I’ve been in drama since freshman year (with several leadership positions such as stage manager), I’m a member of NHS and I’m a member of my schools mural club.

My top choice is Wesleyan University, which I’m applying ED for. My other top choices are Vassar, Bates and Kenyon. I’m so worried that my ACT score and GPA are way too low for any of these schools to accept me!

What’s your unweighted GPA?
30 for Wesleyan is a bit low as the median for 2019 was 33. You can look the stats for other schools by looking at their common data set.

I would recommend that you not apply ED. Use the time now to up that ACT score and up that GPA and apply regular decision. You’ll have a much better chance with a higher GPA and higher ACT.

I believe Wesleyan is test optional but I don’t know if that would help you given that your gpa is not that high. What is your unweighted gpa and approximate rank in class?

My unweighted GPA is 3.8 and my class rank is 63. do you think it’s unlikely I will get into any of my top schools, not just wesleyan?
