Is my essay good enough for Dartmouth?

Hey guys,

Right now, I am kind of stressing out about getting my college essays written up and am being further worried by the fact that I am getting mixed freeback for one of my essays. So, I was wondering if some of you guys would be kind enough to look over it. If so, just post below and (after I check you posting history = D), I'll send it over to you!

THANKS,
Robbie

Hey Robbie,

While I can understand your stress and anxiety in this oh-so-fun season of college applications, I would strongly warn you not to be sending out your application essay to random people online. Even if all the people end up having good intentions, it is still not a particularly safe practice to get into. I would recommend asking an english teacher or professor you’re close to to look it over along with a trusted adult and a trusted peer. They should each give interesting insights that will help you develop the essay. Anyway I wish you all the best during this stressful time and if you have any questions let me know.

Also keep in mind that more feedback doesn’t always make it better. While you should definitely get it looked over by a couple of people, your essay becomes really diluted when you start polling every living soul. I know it sounds a bit counter-intuitive but really limit the number of people you have critique it to a small group of people you trust (counselor, parent, teacher, friend) Believe me, the WORST way to overcome mixed feedback is getting more reviews. The essay everyone agrees upon will probably be the most boring and cleche essay. Remember your essay represents you and is not just another test where admissions is looking for X, Y and Z.
