I have a Weighted GPA of 3.91 (out of 4.25) and a 3.8 for my unweighted.
I’m a Full Diploma student at an international school, and I take double-humanities higher level (History and Economics HL). Although I don’t consider double humanities courses as very rigorous, people tell me that it is.
I want to know where I would stand without considering my EC’s.
I have a 1830 for my first SAT and a 2270 for my second one…should I retake it?
I am planning to apply to UPenn and Pomona next fall…do you think I will be qualified enough just by looking at my GPA?
THanks!
Your last test score is fine. Your GPA is slightly low but it may depends on your school profile.
Your unweighted seems great, but why is the weighted only slightly higher?
@billcsho is correct. GPA might not help you much, but you’re a competitive applicant, based on this very limited info.
Oh please, your GPA is not low. It’s fine. Your an international student right? It’s even more of a crapshoot, so just apply and forget about it and see what happens in the spring.
The Weighted GPA means nothing without the context of the HS profile. That’s why colleges don’t use it for the most part.
I am American, neither a URM or ORM. I had a UW 4.0 out of 4.3 (our school does A+). Our school does not weight although everything was honor or AP. I have often wondered what it translated to GPA wise. Technically a 3.73 out of 4.0 but not really because it is much harder to get an A+ and they are not given in most subjects or not readily. I did think a couple of A- did hurt me. My ECs were good, so were recommends and essays.
The 3 best schools I got into RD were Emory, Tufts and UMichigan CoE and GW with some money. I did get off the WL at an Ivy equivalent which I am considering. Did not get into a single ivy RD, WLed at some non HYPS.
@SaphireNY UMich recalculate uwGPA without subgrades, so you may still be considered 4.0 for them. For their CoE, their admission average GPA is 3.9 or slightly above.
SAT of 2270 is fine. GPA, the college admissions officers will be looking mainly at your transcript and the courses you were taking, and also how your GPA compares to your peers at your school.
If 3.8 is high (top 10% ish) at your school, then it’s academically competitive for Ivy Leagues.
So solely based on GPA/SAT, you are qualified. Obviously they are not the determining factors of your acceptance.
@billcsho yes CoE is much more competitive than liberal arts. I did read that recently and I was considered 4.0. Also at Cal and UCLA (although I did not apply, wish I had but doubt I would have gone). I did not know that at the time I applied but also did not realize how competitive CoE was and how highly ranked. This is good since I would have stressed more. CoE ended up being my second choice
The OP really needs to look at Naviance. If this is top 10% should be ok. May not be. However only comparisions within his own school has meaning. However I would try to get it up a little
1840 first 2150 second, should i retake?
3.7UWGPA, 4.0 WGPA (3.1 freshman year)
@billcsho what if my school doesn’t rank?
@superhay It does not matter. They will evaluate your GPA with your school profile and other candidates from the same school applying this year and before. Many schools in the US do not rank either.
@billcsho the highest GPA in my grade is 4.25. But I have a 3.91…will I be totally affected by this?
