I don't manage a large portfolio but I have made some gains, is this worth mentioning at all?

Not really, it doesn’t seem like it takes any time or effort.

Can it be verified?

It does take time and effort, I’m not just putting my money into anything.

It can be verified that I do in fact do this, but I have no one to verify how many hours I put into it. It’s just something I have an interest in, I don’t invest as part of an after school club.

This is not one of my primary ECs, I’m just wondering if it’s worth putting down. I have suspicions that this might even reflect badly upon me so I am considering leaving it out.

real money? how many figures?

^ That is none of your business but it’s not a lot. My parents don’t fund this (well, they shouldn’t), I just have my own money from my part-time job.

Yes it is, but it will only help you for top colleges if you can effectively present it in your application and if you’ve accomplished something notable or if it’s changed you in some way for the better.

Whoever said investing doesn’t require time and effort obviously doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

I agree with the general (haha) here. You need to find a way to present it to the school otherwise it is worthless. I’m sure you can figure it out though.
