Is my pell grant too low?

The fafsa came through today. My pell is 2900 and my financial aid is 1300? My friends are telling me they were given 4000 and 5000

I’m so confused. My father makes under 30 a year and we were homeless for the better part of the year financial aid wanted me to apply for.

It’s community college and I will be paying for everything. Is there any way I can get more?

Your Pell is based on your EFC. What was your EFC?

And are you full-time?

My EFC was 000000, I believe I’m part time

How many credits are you taking? Full pell is about 5900 for a 0 EFC and full time.

If you only go part time, you don’t get a full pell.

I don’t know, I can’t get into contact with a counselor.

Your Pell is based on the number of credits in which you are enrolled. If you add credits before the drop/add deadline, your Pell might be increased for the semester.

EFC 0 Annual Award is $5,920 (up to 1/2 per semester, depending on enrollment)
12 HOURS=2960/semester
9-11 HOURS=2220/semester
6-8 HOURS=1480/semester
1-5 HOURS=740/semester

You are not going to get a full Pell grant if you’re only going to school part-time

Find out if you add classes to become full-time if you’ll get more Pell …

But also check on the cost of attending part time vs full time. It will cost more to attend full time as well.

The way I read this is she is getting the full amount of Pell for each semester. “My pell is 2900”

kelsmom said “12 HOURS=2960/semester”

That does make sense, if the $2,900 aid the OP refers to is for the semester.

Never compare your awards to any other student’s award. You don’t know their financial situation, you don’t know if they received something based on grades/scores, and you don’t know if they are even telling you what you think they are telling you (the truth; annual vs. semester awards; including loans when you are not; etc.).
