Is my schedule of 6 AP classes too much?

Hi!

I am going into sophomore year, and have never before taken an AP class. My current schedule as a freshman is:
Honors Algebra 2
Honors American Literature
Honors Chemistry
PE
Web Design
Health Science

Next year (10th grade), I am planning to take:
AP Calculus AB (doing pre calc over summer)
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Biology
AP Physics 1
AP World History or AP Human Geography (not sure)
AP Psychology
maybe one more 1 semester class such as microeconomics not sure yet.

I would also liek to point out that I have dont online public school my whole life, and will be taking all these classes from an online private school. As someone who has never taen AP Classes, how doable is this schedule?

Sorry for typos. I meant like* to point out, done* public school, taken* AP classes. Typed in a hurry:(

Whether or not you can do it is entirely up to your abilities and study habits. Not sure any of us here can answer definitively for you. My son took 6 1/2 in one year and he ended up with As and 4s/5s in all of them, so it is possible.

AP courses vary in workload depending on the material and the offering institution. Have you looked at the syllabus for each? What are you trying to accomplish by taking so many? It would be better (obviously) to take fewer and do well than to take more and do poorly.

As a sophomore who has no AP experience? Yes, more than likely, particularly since several of those classes are usually taken by seniors. But as the poster above states, none of us here knows you or what you are capable of. Taking a boatload of AP classes and not doing well in them won’t help in the long run.

I am also taking normal Spanish. Forgot to add that

What classes did you take Freshman year? # of Honors classes?

I would say taking 6 AP classes Sophomore year with no AP class exposure is a disaster waiting to happen. I suggest you try 3 AP classes maybe 4 at the most to make sure you can handle the workload. I would not double up on 2 sciences so drop either AP Biology or AP Physics. AP Lit will be a lot of reading and writing along with AP World History. I would keep AP Calculus AB, AP Lit, AP Biology and AP Human Geography if you insist on taking 4 AP classes. Save the rest of Junior and Senior year.

Also, just an FYI, colleges are not impressed with a massive number of AP classes. They want to see you challenge yourself in your HS courses but do not do it at the expense of getting mediocre grades. Pick the AP classes you think you will do well in and that interest you.

Hello!
I am a freshman going onto sophomore year. I have never taken AP Classes before, and this is currently my schedule for sophomore year:
AP Calculus AB
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Biology
AP Physics 1
AP Psychology
APWH/APHUG

2 Questions:

  1. Do you think this schedule is doable?
  2. Which should I take between APWH and APHUG?

One thing I would like to mention is that so far, for my whole life, I have done online public school, and will be taking all these AP classes online as well if that makes any difference. I am an above average student, but definitely not a genius.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t skip into AB as taking it junior year would still be excellent. It also recommended not to take 2 ap sciences at the same time, as labs are consuming. If it’s offered, take Language and comp before Literature and comp. you should ease your way into ap classes, but if you’re ready, 3-4 of those seem doable.
