Is my schedule too hard?

I’m having trouble getting into classes even as a sophomore, so this is what I came up with as a psychology major going to occupational therapy school:

Intro to psychological science (focused on writing APA research papers)

Statistics (I’m shockingly bad at math but it’s a pre-req)

Spanish II with lab (Spanish minor)

Anatomy and Physiology I with lab (pre-req for OT school)

Medical terminology, (2 credit hours, pre-req)

I feel like it’s a lot of memorizing–which I’m good at, but still–plus stuff I’m not used to, so I’m nervous. I hear from other students that A&P is the hardest class you can take. The subject is very interesting but I worry that it, combined with statistics and terminology, will be too much. I can write decent papers but I’ve never done psychological research papers, so this is worrying me too. This class and Spanish are musts this semester, but the rest I can change up if needed. Thoughts?

With 3 OT prereqs on your schedule this semester you may want to consider taking an easier 5th class - not sure what your options are but consider swapping out something easier in place of Psych Science or Spanish II and take those next semester. Many OT programs also want Sociology or Anthropology so maybe you can add that in this semester. As you probably know, your Prereq GPA can make or break you when applying to OT grad programs, so it’s good to position yourself for success when taking these classes.

My D is a Psych major and plans on OT as well, and just finished Anatomy this summer at a CC. This seems to be a pretty challenging class everywhere and it will take a lot of work to do well. Guessing the Medical Terminology class won’t be too bad but lots of memorization.

@my2caligirls You make a good point. But it’s funny because Spanish and Psych science are the two classes I can’t drop if I want to graduate on time. There is a sociology class open, so I might get in there. But I’d have to figure out which class to drop.

@clcliff

Guess you can always move A&P to your Spring semester, but no guarantee that semester will be any lighter for you. You just need to make sure your key prereqs are complete by end of junior year if possible. Maybe take Sociology this semester and move A&P to Spring - still knocking out 3 prereqs but sure more manageable.

The good news is that I’m guessing there will be quite a bit of overlap between A&P and medical terminology, so if you move it as the previous poster suggested, you will probably be a bit ahead with the vocabulary. I personally love A&P and highly recommend getting the “Anatomy Coloring Book”–it’s an awesome study tool.
