Ok so I’m going to a medium size uni in South Florida this Fall, and I’m just wondering if my scheds too empty? Honestly I’m an art major so it’d make sense but still!
After doing some forum reading on here-it seemed like a lot of people said that MWF classes typically release an assignment a week and having 2 of those are troublesome? So me being my lazy self didnt sign up for ANY block schedule courses lol.
Heres my schedule:
MON: day begins: 9:30am / day ends: 3:50 pm | Art History, freshman intro class, Japanese
TUES: day begins: 9:30 am / day ends: 2:00 pm | English, design
WED: day begins: 9:30am / day ends: 3:50 pm | Art History, freshman intro class, Japanese
THURS: day begins: 9:30 am / day ends: 2:00 pm | English, design
FRI-SUN: No classes
Cmon. Just look at that schedule. It sounds really free and really easy-but is it really? :^0 Am I underestimating it?
If my schedule is pretty lenient-what do you guys think I should do in my spare time? I don’t really want to apply for jobs or anything-but I can see it being an option seeing the kinda sorta free time ill have.
This seems like an average to above-average workload. 5 classes, probably 15 credits, you’re absolutely fine. College is different than high school in that almost all of your work is done outside of class.
The thing about college is that you might be in class for only about 2 hours on any given day but the complexity of the concepts you learn, coupled with the expectation to prepare for those classes, is a lot more intense than what is conveyed in the times of your class schedule.
Thanks for the replies you guys-I understand now!
Im taking 15 credits, yep.
I keep thinking like a highschooler, I’m kinda nervous now knowing that it’ll be more work :^\
So thanks for the advice wish me luck!
Part of this depends on how difficult the subjects are, too. If you have a prof who is challenging and gives a lot of work, then you’ll spend more time out of class than a prof who’s not. Also, when you go for orientation, most faculty/advisers/students will tell you that for every one hour of lecture, you will spend three hours outside of class working on schoolwork. I never really found this sentiment to be true (yet), so it really depends on you and your professors.
Like the above poster says, you may get 2-3 hours of homework for every hour in the class. Plus you may want to do sports or a club or work part time as well.
@NavalTradition I have great work habits but poor study habits I plan to completely change that during college though-but just in case, do you have any ideas on what I could change to make my schedule easier on me?
I avoided MWF classes bc I read on here that theyre troublesome-but is that true?
I also made my classes at 9AM-particularly early for me since highschool starts for me at 9AM. I cannot really change them, so did you take morning classes and what methods did you use to make yourself efficient? Just curious for ideas
I never took a morning class when I could help it, and did poorly in morning classes when I couldn’t help it. I’m probably not the right person to ask about that particular issue.
