Is my SSAT scores too low for Phillips Exeter academy?

Here are my scores: 2190 (84%tile)
I did not write a good essay that day. Will they look at the essay?
I’m planning to apply to Phillips Exeter academy for grade 11.
I do 10 extra curricular activities and have a fair school transcript.
I currently study at the best school in my city.
What are my chances? Do I need to retake the SSAT?
Honest answers plz. Thank you.

This will most likely be moved for posting in the wrong forum. There is a separate forum for boarding school chances.

Your SSAT is a bit on the low side for Exeter. The average is low to mid 90s. They also have very few spots for grade 11. You might consider repeating grade 10. Essays are very important.

Isn’t the essay written as part of the SSAT different than the actual essay that goes with the application? This applicant can do a better job with that one if s/he tries right?

Thank you for your reply. Yes it is. I’m referring to the ssat essay. I wasn’t used to writing an essay in twenty minutes and I panicked, resulting in a really bad essay. I’m just wondering whether the schools will look at it.

From what I’ve read PEA is looking for a minimum of mid 80’s. If that means 85 you are close. Perhaps a little practice can get you into the high 80’s which would be a little safer but keep in mind there are no guarantees with any top boarding school.

I would consider retaking especially if you are applying for the 11th grade. Also as a piece of advice, most schools don’t care how many clubs you sign up for, they are more interested in what each club means to you and what contribution you made. Best of luck.
