Thanks for clicking to help!
So I have part of my essay written for the common app and I am writing about my grandfather and the journey of his life specifically when he was in the Holocaust and he had to hide, etc. Im focusing on his positive attitude and how its helped me through my life among other things. My mom thinks its a terrible idea to write about being Jewish because of the current rising anti-semitism in the country/world. Do you think it's okay for me to write about this or do you think it's too risky? I personally don't see anti-semitism as a huge issue in the US and can't see an admissions officer at the places I'm applying (NYU, University of Southern Cal, UCLA, UC Berk, etc.) having an issue with Jews, but maybe thats just me.
THANK YOU!

If you learned about his positive attitude and achived something personal, that should be fine. Just don’t write entirely about your grandfather’s ‘positive attitude’.

This anti-semitism shouldn’t be a problem…

Jewish identification/focus is zero problem. This family history sounds like a good start to me. But make sure the essay is mainly about you and your outlook or experiences.

Okay, I was going to talk about working with elderly people at my job reminded me of him and made me have a positive attitude while working there, does that sound like a smart way to go with it?

Just finish the essay, and if it works / reads like your own voice / has your English teacher’s seal of approval, you should be fine.
