Is my topic too risky? Is it relevant?

Hey there!
I'm currently finishing up a common application essay that I will be sending to NYU very shortly, but I'm worried it's too risky?
I'm writing about how palmistry has influenced the way I view strangers and people in general, and how the stories of these strangers have influenced my writing.
It's not about my spiritual beliefs, or even really about palmistry, more about how it has influenced my writing and the way I see strangers.

I feel like if I do it right, the essay could be unique and stand out-- but if I do it wrong, they might just think I'm hokey and wouldn't take me seriously

Another thing I'm worried about, is that I am applying for the creative writing program in a lot of other schools, but not for NYU. If I send this essay focusing on my creative writing, but apply for psychology or english, would this look bad? Would my essay still be relevant?

I'm sorry if I'm rambling, I'm just ridiculously frazzled and stressed out, and I feel completely lost. Thanks for any input you might have!

Hey, I’ll read you essay; it sounds pretty interesting. I just put the finishing touches on my common app essay about a week ago, and it was very stressful, especially with my parents and college counselor obsessing over it in addition to myself. So I definitely feel your pain. And don’t worry about rambling; you’re stressed. Just PM it to me and I’ll get it back to you and soon as I can.

PS: I’m a fellow creative writer (not applying to NYU though) so I have that point of view if you want it.
