I believe I could make National AP Scholar by the end of this year with enough work. I don't know if it's worth the time though. We aren't allowed to take AP tests/courses at my school until junior year, so this means I have to take 8 AP tests.
Many people tell me it is worthless in comparison to other things though.

Bump…

You are generalizing way too much and making a lot of assumptions.

If you have never taken an AP test, you don’t know how hard they are and how good you have to be in each subject to score at least a 4.

You don’t say how many need to be self study since I can’t imagine your school is letting you do 8 APs as a junior.

If you are self studying for any, then apparently your school has no control on when you take a test if they don’t offer it.

There are so few people reaching this status as a junior that it is considered a pretty good honor for college applications. You should change those many people you talk to and get some new friends who know what they are talking about.

I am not generalizing at all. I am currently taking 4 AP classes and self studying the other four.
I can take the tests at a nearby community college if they cannot be proctored at my school.

You are the one who is making assumptions.
The many people I am talking to are PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM. LIKE YOU.

~If your school recognizes people for that award, you might be the only one to have it! :D

Do some cost benefit analysis if you please.

"The many people I am talking to are PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM. LIKE YOU. "

Like who? I have never seen anyone claim it is worthless like your statement says - “Many people tell me it is worthless in comparison to other things though”

I would tell them they don’t know what they are talking about too.

You can check out how few make it to national AP scholar in 11th grade in each state compared to the other honors.

If you’re thinking of doing it solely to help you get into college, you might want to ask reps from the colleges you’re interested to see if they care about it. If you spend all your time self-studying and don’t spend time on any ECs or other interests, then it may not be worth it in any case.
