So I didn't make it into NHS or Spanish Honors Society and I barely missed the GPA requirement by one piont (my school does our GPAs on a 100 piont scale). Should I be worried if I am applying to places like TCNJ, Villanova, American University, NYU, and Fordham

NHS is just one factor admissions officers take into consideration. Don’t sweat it as long as you have other ECs and/or awards.

Nope. I’m going to Georgetown and wasn’t in it. All the kids who were in it are mostly going to CC or no-name schools.

You can find something better to spend your time on.

Colleges for the most part absolutely don’t care which organizations you were a part of. They care far more about what you did in the organization- in other words, what sort of impact did you have and how was it meaningful to both you and to other people?

Also, if the NHS at your school is only managing to sell itself by telling people it’ll help them get into college- odds are it’s not worth joining in any case.

Demonstrating a commitment to a few ECs can strengthen a good application, but unless the EC is a super selective national program, it really doesn’t matter specifically what it is. Clubs, volunteering, a job, sports, theater, and student government are all EC options to consider, if you don’t really have any at this point.
