Is northwestern that dangerous?

I heard NU's not a really safe campus compared to other places
some crimes I guess?
How would it be for an asian girl to be there?

Some crime? I didn’t hear of anything out of the ordinary during my first year. Certainly nothing dangerous. And it’s not scary at all for an Asian girl. I have no idea where you heard all this. You might be thinking of the area surrounding UChicago…

yeah, you’re thinking of that other school in Chicago. NU’s location in Evanston is in the North Shore.

Everyone freaks about like the 1-3 crimes that happen on/with 3 blocks of campus annually. I laugh and explain how a crime a quarter is pretty good safety.

Women should never walk alone off-campus, but I’d feel safe walking down sheridan at any hour of the night. The unsafe parts of evanston basically start a block west beyond where anyone lives and further south than you will go late at night.

Although I can’t confirm if this is true, those blue light stations that have the red buttons that link to Northwestern PD have never been used/needed to be used to stop a crime.

It’s perfectly safe. Asian girls are so common at NU that you’d think it would be obvious :P

Thankyou so much.
I love NU but I was so worried
I see I was going over = )

NU is generally really safe, though IMO the administration could be doing much more to promote campus security, like expand SafeRide (at depaul, their saferide is basically as fast as a taxi service, and not limited to residential buildings), and step up on-campus patrols.

Evanston is a suburb, so you aren’t in an urban location with more serious crime problems.

My D, Asian girl, has never brought safety up as a concern. You may initially want to go in groups with your friends till you get a feel for the place.
