Is nutrition a girly major?

I’m thinking about nutrition as a major for either sports nutrition or physical therapy or something sports medicine related…

Do guys in the nutrition major ever get made fun of? All I hear is that it’s like all girls in the major!

I’ve never heard of guys in any girl dominated major getting made fun of. That being said, yes, nutrition is largely female at Cal Poly. An easy way to see the male:female ratio breakdown by major is the graduate status report:

[Graduate Status Report - Career Services - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](Job Search - Career Services - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo)

I wouldn’t trust all the information on it (such as average salary), but the amount of graduates and their gender is definitely accurate.

A lot of nutrition girls are very pretty and very active. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t mind being surrounded by them in most of my classes lol.

If you are interested in it you are ahead of many college kids that are unsure of a major. Nutrition is becoming a big trend and if you are applying and possibly combining it with sports medicine it could be a good and interesting direction to go. Nursing has been considered a female type major, but some of the best nurses I have run across happen to be men. I think stereotypes are fading in all fields in this day and age. Follow your interest and passions and you can’t go wrong. And agree, most girls in the nutrition field are healthy, athletic, positive and pretty as a result!

I mean… I wouldn’t mind being constantly surrounded by a bunch cute intellectual girls :D

Go for it buddy! If the major seems too girly for you than join the wrestling team to balance it out. Nobody will mess with you then!
