that poem is fantastic!

Good job at reviving a year old thread…

penn’s not into gothic, gloomy architecture but like Hogwarts, admission is selective and you could say that you have to show magical talent to get in. Heads of houses at Hogwarts = house deans. the Great Hall = 1920 commons…

Some places on campus do feel a little like Hogwarts, though.

Only difference: there is no lake =(

mm well there is the biopond!

we do not have owls :(

^There is a “secret” frat called owls and Temple’s mascot is an owl.

but there is no owl mail :)

Well…that was kind of racist because people with guns, regardless of their race, are scary.

But, anyway, Hogwarts Express = LUCY Loop
And Hogwarts itself kind of looks like the Quad.
The Head (Amy) is answerable to the twelve-member Board of Governors (the trustees)

HAHA I like how you used the word “shady”

(Though that was kind of racist)

well Penn just got a little less like Hogwarts because Emma Watson will be attending Brown. You all picked the wrong Ivy!

Anyone transferring?

lol. I think she only chose Brown because she’ll be able to take all acting courses and still graduate from an ivy. I was thinking about doing too, but then I decided to come to Penn because of its uncanny resemblance to Hogwarts.

Susie, she’s not studying anything in the arts category (theater, music, acting etc.). She’s going to be studying literature.

So she says. Chelsea Clinton was going to study Chemistry, then she wound up doing her senior thesis on her father’s administration. You never know with celebs, you never know ; )

it doesn’t matter what e.w. majors in. she’s got millions, and she’s 19!!!

okay, back to harry potter: bennett hall looks hogwartsish. (i think. i really have no clue where bennett hall is)

Gothic buildings look hogwartsy (or so I imagine, since i’ve never seen/read Harry Potter). Penn’s gothic buildings are slim pickin–which is a good thing as any gothic built in America is by definition an imitation of real collegiate gothic from oxford and cambridge. Yale didn’t even have any Gothic for the first 2 of its 3 centuries of existence–it was a 20th century gilded age bolt-on, and they went so far as to pour acid on the buildings to create the illusion of age.

Most of Penn’s buildings are genuine reflections of their age–from the Victorian College Hall and Logan Hall to the stunning and unique Furness library. Even the ugly 60s buildings are at least genuine representations of the architectural zeitgeist of the time.

Penn is not like Hogwarts, or Yale or Princeton or anything. Penn is like Penn, and there is no place like it.
