Will joining Phi Theta Kappa look good on my application and provide me with scholarship opportunities even if I don't want to become very involved in it?

Maybe & maybe.

Both questions depend on which schools you’re thinking of transferring to. PTK will be looked upon more highly at some colleges than others, and similarly, some schools offer PTK scholarships while others don’t.

for the price you pay and what you get out of it, I think it’s reasonable. $80 or something, can’t remember. I know get discount from geico, not sure what else. I dont participate much either, but it’s good feeling to apply to university being able to check that box “Are you a member of PTK?”

I’m thinking of applying to Loyola University, Northwestern University, and Northeastern Illinois University. How do you think these schools will view my “uninvolved” membership in Phi Theta Kappa?

I do not know. But why don’t you just get involved? My kid had a great experience, including travel to conferences.

I honestly don’t think I’ll have very much time to get involved. Plus, I’m not the most “social” type of person.

If I were asking someone about their PTK experience, I would probably ask them ‘what did you do?’. so you take a chance if your total involvement is sending in the check. The PtK chapter my kid was in had high and low involvement opportunities. Maybe you could consider dipping your toes into that pond? They were a nice group of kids. Good luck.

Many PTK scholarships have no interview requirement. You get the money simply be demonstrating you are PTK. So check things carefully.

I am in the same situation and really considering paying the $90 to become a lifetime member. I won’t have much if any extra curriculars so why not?

Anyone know if UCSB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI acknowledge PTK? Also are there scholarship opportunities to these schools? Thanks!

^I would think answers could be easily found on the PTK and college websites.
