i've been taking piano for 10 years now and I want to know if that would be considered an extracurricular. The problem is ALOT of people take piano so is it just too mundane to put down on a college app?

Plus is it worth it to self study on AP music theory. I have a good chance if i study but does it look any better than say...AP Chem or something I could get a 5 on more easily?

Piano is absolutely an EC. It shows a dedicated passion, it’s done outside of school and forces you to manage your time. It should definitely go on your app, along with the number of hours you spend at it and major recitals and/or awards.
Sorry I can’t address the second part of your question.

Yes. And if you are applying to Common App schools you should plan to prepare a common app music supplement if you are good at it.

Do you want to major in music? Most music schools/departments are NOT going to accept AP music theory for credit. I don’t know if you would get a regular fine arts credit for it if you were not majoring in music - you would have to check on the individual schools.

Depending on where you are planning to apply, I am going to say that the AP Chem will “look better.”
