My main extracurricular is piano. I am very devoted to it and spend a lot of my free time practicing. The thing is, I don’t really have any major achievements in it. I have never participated in a piano exam or competition, and I don’t have any teaching experience or anything like that. I guess the most notable things I’ve done are get invited to play in some recitals and master classes with the local piano teacher’s association, and get into a few summer programs, but I feel like these things are hardly even worth mentioning. Is that going to be a problem for me in college applications? I feel like I put a lot of time and effort into piano, but that it’s not going to be apparent on paper.
Talk about it in an essay. Summer programs are pretty good, along with the local piano teacher’s association.
Most schools don’t even care about EC’s anyway so I don’t think you have to worry too much.
Your ECs should be things that are interesting and important to you. You don’t have to be a superstar. To the extent that schools look at ECs, they are learning more about who you are and how you spend your time.
Put down what you have done in your application so colleges know what your interest is.
