Is Prentice Hall's "Economics: Principles in Action" a good textbook to self-study?

It’s what my teacher gave me “to start out” for self-studying Macro and Micro Econ. I plan on using a prep book or books such as 5 Steps after I finish the text. Will that prepare me sufficiently? What prep books do you recommend?
