My D is considering PSU as a safety, her GPA is 3.81 uw, 3.94w, SATs are in the 710-740 range, ACT is 33. Given that 2/3 of the admission decision is based on GPA, her SATs are good, she seems to be OK for a safety school, as long as PSU does it "by the numbers"

I am also left with the impression that PSU offers rolling admissions and applying early improves your chances. Is that correct?

Your D is in - admissions is by the numbers. With those numbers, it would be worth it to have her apply to the Schreyer honors college. They are not numbers based, although you have be looking at a good GPA and standardized scores to even be considered.

Groovy, they'll be in with those numbers but Shreyers is another animal altogether. My sons a freshman just starting and he had 2 friends turned down at shreyers, one with a 1400 (old sat scores) and the other with 1440 (also old sats) I've heard that the shreyers process involves an important interview BUT the interview is requested somehow from the school to the student. I don't know how the school gets those prospects names though.
Hope this helps, Joe

My older son was accepted into SHC for the class of '09; at that time he was not asked to interview. (He decided to go elsewhere.) I have read essays at the college; many were very impressive.
