Schreyer - Honors - do you think he would get in?

My son is in top 15% of class - hopes to be top 10% of his HS class when they recalculate class rank at the end of junior yr, has a 3.9 (W) GPA, all honors, AP courses, 5 on AP Stat, taking AP US History and AP Calc B/C this year. Hopes to take 5 AP's/college course next year. SAT's 690 CR, 760 M, 750 W - is retaking 3/14, SAT II's Math I 780, Math II 800. Plans to study math and music and looking at smaller private schools - not really considering Penn State at this point - but for financial reasons I would like him to consider Penn State.

his stats are better than mine, and i got in ;)
i don't think schreyer's looks at sats
if he has good ecs, then i think he's got a great shot!

The quality of his EC's, 7 essays, as well as the number of applicants will determine if he gets in. Stats are a prerequisite, not the determining factor.

His stats are better than mine too, and i got in. I don't know how much they consider the essays but they are a pain in the ass, some decent extracurriculars and some time spent on the essays should get him in just fine. I'm in-state too, i don't know if that matters...

swing907 and 09novellie - are you planning on going to PSU and if so, what made you decide to choose PSU and where else did you consider? I think that non-honors PSU might be too large for my son - but if he were to get into the honors college it would make it much more appealing. For financial reasons I would really like him to consider PSU - plus I understand the math dept is VERY good.

Really focus on the essays…my stats were good but nothing earth shattering and I got in. I think they weigh your essay responses most heavily. Best of luck to your son!

what are “ecs”?

and how do i post a question on this website?? im new lol

ECs = extra-curricular activities

To post something, you either hit the “post reply” link at the bottom of a post (if you want to add something to an existing discussion) or you start a new thread. To start a new thread, you go to the main page of whatever section you want to post in. For example, if you want to post something about Penn State, you would go to talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park

Then just look for the “New Thread” button near the top of the page. Click it, and post your question/comment.
