Is it a good or bad idea to take this class first semester freshman year?

PSY 1630 in Peabody is a required first semester course for freshman HOD majors in Peabody, so yes, its appropriate.

Thank you for the info. Thinking of taking it as BME major for possible pre-med. Any feedback?

I don’t really see the purpose but I guess you can take it if you’re interested. Doesn’t appear to fill any BME, liberal arts core, or pre-med requirements. As for specific feedback to the course, just look up the professor on RMP and see reviews for that specific course.

Thank you Pancaked, but am I reading it wrong? Doesn’t that class fit in this list in the Engineering registration packet?

Also, YES shows space available at this point, but will it be difficult for a non-Peabody student to get into this class?

Oh, totally forgot about that category, you are correct.

As far as I know you’re divided into three? registration slots and have equal access to all classes regardless of your school and major.

I think you get some sort of advantage in registering for courses in your major, once you officially declare a major, but I don’t know how it works and I don’t think it even applies to freshmen. I think it gives you a better chance to enroll in a full course or something. Anyways, the fact you are in VUSE and enrolling in Peabody course doesn’t affect anything.

It won’t be an issue for a non-Peabody student to register for this class, though you might have more flexibility in the spring semester. It’s a great class for anyone interested in development and psychology, and focuses heavily on language development and emotional development. I loved it last semester!

I have a similar question regarding this class. I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing as far as major/minoring goes, but I know I want to double major some way between biology/psychology/cognitive studies. Can’t decide yet. Anyways, I’m deciding between psych 1630 with Noland, who has bad reviews on ratemyprofessor, and psych 1207 (minds, brains, contexts, and cultures) with Smith, who got rave reviews on rmp. 1207 is required for cog studies majors, so should I take that this semester and use it to decide if I’d like to major in cognitive studies? And then next semester take 1630 and try to get a better professor?

Sure, why not.

Pancaked: The person is a freshman and will likely take the new MCAT if they are pre-med. It’s possible that some sort of psyche course will help. I’m sure no med. schools require it, but exposure to some of the principles and terminology may help on the new section they are adding (all though you can honestly probably just read the passage or data and figure out the meaning of the terminology on the spot).
