Engineering freshman courseload

Hello,

So far, after analyzing all the classes on YES and coming up with a feasible schedule, these are the classes that I plan to take 1st semester freshman year as a declared biomedical engineer.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
11-12 Chem 102A Lecture - Todd
12-1 ES 140 (Module A to begin with) - Lewis
1-2 Math 175 - Mihalik
3-4 English 118W - Staff (unknown?)

Tuesday:
8-9 Chem 102A Discussion - Todd
9:30-11 Neuroscience 201 - Smith

Thursday:
9:30-11 Neuroscience 201 - Smith
1-4 Chem 104A Lab - Phillips

This adds up to 16 hours. Is the schedule good enough or a bit too hard? I am planning to minor in neuroscience which is why I want to take NSC 201 now (and I've heard its not a hard class either). I am also premed, which is why I want to take the english class (apparently, med school requirements don't accept AP credit). I would also like to take part in activities/clubs when I get to Vanderbilt and also research (but that will probably wait until 2nd semester). So, how do you guys think this schedule looks? Is it set up fine or do you have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Pretty normal schedule for an engineer. Starting at 11 MWF is somewhat of a godsend in engineering, enjoy it! Good luck at getting to an 8am discussion though.

Yeah, but what do you even do in a discussion? Its not a lot of work, right? I’d rather just get it out of the way earlier and then be done with class by 11 on tuesday

Basically just a review of sorts with the TA(s). Sometimes they will give quizzes or go over homework.

That schedule shouldn’t be a problem. Not to mention Todd is the best Chem teacher. As the person above me said, you will probably never get the chance to start at 11 again, so take advantage of it. I started this late my first semester freshman year. The next four semesters have had mandatory classes that only had one time slot at 9 am. Enjoy it while you can.
