Is Rice a possibility for me?

Heya guys :)
This'll be my first post, so I'm hoping to start it out on a good note.

I go to McKinney High School, and as long as college admission time gets closer, I've been fixated on Rice. There isn't a single thing that I don't love about the school, so of course the big question is, can I get in, or am I chasing a dream?

I'm currently a Junior in high school and am ranked 21st in about 500ish students. My GPA adjusted to a 4 point scale is 3.96 (so close!) And I am pretty sure I will be able to raise that by the end of this year just in time for applications.

As far as extracurriculars and community work go, I'm very involved in my community and have logged many hours of community service. I am in Key Club and in Green Cord. an officer of our school Orchestra, a school representative, and am a member of the region HOSA chapter. I am also currently enrolled in CNA classes, so by the end of the year I will become a Texas Certified Nurse Aide, allowing me to have hands on experience in the field of medicine into which I hope to go into (Not just hope, I've got it all planned out ;)

Some other details; I have taken AP World History (scored a 4) and I am currently taking AP Calculus AB, AP US History, and AP English Lit. All of my other classes are Honors or Pre-Ap.

My biggest concern will have to be the PSAT. I haven't taken the official PSAT yet, but after taking classes and TONS of practice tests, I have been placing in 1950-2000 range each time, but I fear this may not be high enough to be considered. Rice has a holistic application process, but still I am afraid that getting in will be a long shot for this reason.

It would be super helpful to hear what some of y'all think!

Thanks in advance,
Tas

Depends what brownie means in your username

I happen to be South Asian :)

Your ECs are a little too weak to make up for your SAT. You need to get a great SAT score (2100+) if you want to have better chances. But even if you don’t, you might have a shot b/c of your great GPA

If you can break 2250 on your SAT, or 33 on your ACT, then I’d say Rice is in the cards for you. If you can’t do that, then it becomes a Reach, but only by a little margin.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1549053-columbia-ed-will-chance-back-within-12-hours.html

If I can’t break the 2100+ barrier for the SAT then do you think a great ACT score could make up for that?

If you do better on the ACT, then you only send your ACT scores, not your SAT scores.

Thanks sungoose! So you don’t recommend sending both?

Not if you do significantly better on one over the other, no.

Alright I gotchu, thanks again :)

Send whatever you do best on. The other one doesn’t matter.

Regarding your chances, your stats are good. As others have said, raising your SAT/ACT can only help your chances.

Good Luck.
