Is RISD 6-week summer foundation studies helpful?

Hi all. I'm struggling whether to apply RISD as a transfer or as a freshman. One of my concerns is its summer foundation program. Do any of you have the experience of attending the program? Does the program really help much since its just 6-week?

I received some academic training as well and my experience tells me that 6-week or even 1 year of training won't really transform you dramatically into another person, lol. Maybe I am not that smart or the school I received training from is just not that good.

(I'm aiming RISD illustration program and have pretty good drawing skills, although not sure how good the skills are comparing to RISD students who have gone through the first year.)

I don’t have any experience with the 6-week “crash” foundation program for transfers, as my son entered RISD as a freshman. Is attending the 6-week class in the summer as good as having the full Foundation Year? Of course not. However, you can rest assured that RISD simply would not admit you if they didn’t think you already had the talent – and that whatever skills you might be lacking in terms of technique, methods, etc. could be taught to you before you began classes in the fall.

Thanks, worried_mom. You are right that I will simply not get accepted if I’m not qualified. I am never convinced by others that my works are good except one or two which I really considered as my own masterpieces. May be I’m just pathetic that whenever I feel happy with what I have done I shut that feeling down because I believe that there are lots of people doing better than me outside the classroom. :(
