I'm asking for my cousin. I have doubts about it myself. Could you name alternatives in California?

I do not recommend undergrad business unless it’s at a top school, and there are only about ten places that I qualify as top. At a place like San Jose State, he SHOULD NOT do undergrad business. There will be no opportunities upon graduation. I recommend something like:

-engineering
- computer science
-nursing - math
- physics
- maybe a humanity like history/philosophy if he thinks he can get near a 4.0, and also has the resources to go to law school

kids are graduating from 2nd and 3rd tier schools as business majors in droves, and going to work as cooks at TGIF fridays

All CSU business program are born equal :)

Unless you want to move to Bay Area, SJSU is close to Yahoo, Google, Adobe… central offices, you may find an internship with these companies easier than l

Your cousin needs to find out who recruits on campus, and how many people were hired thru the program in the past several years. Obviously 2009 was a rough time anywhere, but in better years he should find out what employers are looking for SJSU kids.

If he plans on just going to college for an undergrad degree, San Jose was ranked #1 “best place to begin a career” by Forbes, #13 for small companies, #1 for large companies, 5th for talented young professionals. However, also consider most people live in the area where they end school for a while, so if he goes to school there he’ll probably be stuck in San Jose for a while.

My cousin has about a B- average, but did score 700 on his chem SAT, and is a junior this fall. Could you name CSU’s besides San Jose State that he could apply to? His interest is in business. His parents don’t want to spend much on college. Could he get a half or full tuition scholarship anywhere possibly at a California college?

No, the CSUs don’t give much aid and a B- student won’t get any from a private.

What about CC -> transfer to a top UC? Isn’t that path relatively common in California? And it will help him save money…

I’m sort of leery of community colleges, though it might be good. Could anybody recommend some CSU’s to apply to besides San Jose State?

So is it for you or your cousin (based on last post)? Anywho, a B- student, unless they have something AMAZING about them won’t be getting any half/full tuition scholarships at a stateschool, nonetheless a private school. You say he’s going to be a junior, so if he can pull off getting 4.00s for three semesters, that gives him something like a 3.7. Then with decent ECs and test scores, he can make a case for himself for scholarships.

unless you’re planning to start your own business, do not get a BBA unless you’re going to a top 10 business school

SDSU and I think it’s Fullerton that also has among the best CSU programs.

chico, cal poly, humbolt, san diego, fullerton are the best CSUs
