Hi everyone,
I'm a science-minded person and I am determined to study science in the college. I specified this in the future plan section of the Common App. Therefore, I want to write about my views about science and scientists through three small incidents. However, I will apply to some schools whose science majors are not very strong (but they attract me in other aspects). So will my essay tell the adcoms of these colleges that I am not suitable for them?
In addition, I have another choice about how my view of poor people changes after community service.
So what's your recommendation?

No, writing about a science topic to not very strong science school will not negatively impact your chances. As long as the topic is passionate, well-written, not cliched, and shows something about you it should be fine. The schools may be looking to strengthen their weak departments so applying as a science major may be a helpful thing. Some majors are more competitive, but at a non science school being passionate about science should make you a more unique applicant.

Many essays about learning from community service/poor people are very cliched. “I went to Mexico and learned there were poor orphans/I went to soup kitchen and realized how hard some people have it/I helped tutor inner city kids and realized___” are all very commonly done. If you have no unique experience/thoughts from the community service then I wouldn’t write about it. The science one sounds more interesting to me.
