Is Speech a required course at every college?

Hi,
I had to take a speech class last year, (I'm currently a senior in high school) and I hated it because I have a phobia of speaking in front of large groups of people. I've worked on it, one-on-one I don't get nervious at all but I am just not a "party" person. I am very reserved in large groups, but I talk a lot if its just like 2 people.

I've tried working on this but I will never be 100% "normal". It's just the way my brain was made.

At the colleges I'm looking at most or all seem to require a speech, or if not labeled soley as speech, then speech/comp class.

Do all colleges require this? Which ones emphasize independent work and much less speech? Any suggestions on career advice? I like science and math....

Hmm, what colleges are you looking at?

I had to take about 4 seminars (each about 3 hours long) that was more or less a "speech" class. It actually focused more on presentations than anything else.

Even if I didn't have to take those seminars, pretty much every engineering class I've taken required one or two presentations each during the semester.

No, many colleges do not require you to take a speech class. There are certain colleges where engineering students would have to take one, just so you know, but you have a variety of schools to choose from where a speech class is not required in the curriculum.

Go on college websites and look at the curriculum of the major you are considering to see what courses are required.

its possible you may have an anxiety disorder, my bro was like that and now hes on xanax.... now he can get through his presentations with no problem... he only takes it for public speaking events

You might also look into getting the requirement out of the way at a community college.

Nope, no speech class here. Maybe it should be a requirement for engineers, though =P
