So previous to tonight I have been set on staying on campus my freshman year. I was about 75% set on Jester due to the social scene, but was not super excited about the actual rooms. I finally searched and found out what SRD actually stood for and completely fell in love with the building and most of the reviews I have read seem very positive. I am a very social person but am also pretty studious. I am definitely not a nerd and am pretty normal (but not in a boring way!) I love to just hangout with friends whether it be watching tv, going shopping, working out, or studying. I don't like being alone, and that seems to be my biggest fear about moving to college. I come from a small town and I don't know a single person that will be attending UT in the fall of 2013. I plan on rushing but also like I said know absolutely nobody nor anything about it besides what I've learned from simple searches on the internet. I really want to live in a place where I will meet great friends that I will have throughout college and be very close to. I love the rules on boys, my best friend is completely attached to her boyfriend and I find it rather annoying. My focus in college will be my education of course but also forming long lasting friendships and having a lot of fun. Please let me know if you think SRD is the place for me! My only doubt is that I will be majoring in business that will be on the complete other side of campus. But I will probably live in SRD my freshman year only because I really want to live in a sorority house after that. Also if you could give me information about round about when I can submit my application to SRD and still be pretty much guaranteed a space.

If you are an auto admit, apply now. They will take a $200 (I think…that was last year…lol) deposit and it reserves an application for you. Sometime in late January they will mail contracts. YOU MUST MAIL THIS BACK NEXT DAY AIR the same day you receive it and you will have to send around $900 at that time so make sure you budget for that. SRD is by far one of the most beautiful, warm and wonderful places I have ever seen. You will be super happy there. Good luck in recruitment also. My daughter pledged her freshman year (and lived in SRD) and it was the best year of her life.

I lived in SRD many years ago. I loved it so much that I stayed all four years. I think you’ll like it, too. I wish we lived in Texas now, so that my daughter had a chance to attend UT and live in SRD! (I don’t think her stats will be good enough as an OOS student.)

I met my best friend and future roommate the day I moved into the dorm. Then another girl followed me home from calculus one day - it turns out she lived on the same floor as I did. We became close friends, also. collegeshopping is right - it feels very warm and friendly there. We loved sitting by the pool when it got warm enough (late February, usually!).

Good luck to you! I’m envious that you will get to live there!

My mom recentaly called SRD and they told her that it didn’t matter when I got my application in but that on Feb. 1 they send out contracts to all that applied and the first 322 girls to get the contract back to them would get the spots. Is this completely valid? It seems weird that they dont do applications on a first come first serve basis.

They undoubtedly have developed a system that works for them. It is a little unusual, but valid.

Tjanderson…that is sort of right. The first 322 contracts in the door get the rooms, despite when they sent their application. BUT…when it comes to room choices, they go in order of when they girl originally applied. So if your mom put you on the list your sophomore year of high school, vs someone who applies fall senior year, the girl who applied sophomore year gets first dibs on room choice IF both got their contracts and deposits turned in before it was full.

Oh okay I see, thank you so much for the info! One more question- will I receive the contract for sure on February 1? or is that when they are mailed out? In your opinion when I receive the contract in what way (mail, personally taking it there, etc.) should I get it back to them to ensure a spot?
Thanks again so much

Tjanderson, my daughter will be staying at SRD this year. The contracts are mailed from Austin on February 1; daughter (lives in a suburb of Dallas) received it on February 2. She signed the forms, I wrote the check and had FedEx pick up the envelope from our home that afternoon (the 2nd). We sent it FedEx First Overnight which guaranteed delivery to Austin by 8:00 the next morning. You can track the envelope online and see who signed for it. For Fall 2012, SRD was full by February 5, so as collegeshopping said, you will need to send it overnight to ensure you secure a space. If you live close to Austin, then by all means hand deliver the contract the day you receive it.
