Is starting off with dialogue bad?

I’ve still yet to start off my essay as I’m stuck on how to write an attention-grabbing hook. Is starting the essay with dialogue a bad idea? Any tips for a good hook?

Hi – the best way to get your essay started is to simply write down what’s in your head. Write and write. Do not worry about the order. Do not worry about how long it is. Do not worry about the content. Just get out onto the page what’s on your mind.

At some point you will realize what it is that you’re “really” writing about. Once you get there --and I know of no other way to get there than through writing a lot of material – then you go back and rewrite your essay.

If your mind is telling you to write in dialogue first, then do so. But also tell yourself this: Drafts are my friend.

You will be writing several drafts. In rewriting your entire organization will change in all probability.

In ohter words: do not edit yet. Just let the words flow. Later, put on your editing hat and tear it apart and make it the best essay it can be.

Best of luck to you.
