What are some good ways to start the essay?

<p>For me college app essays take a completely different style of writing than I am used to.</p>

<p>I'm not sure whether I need to just get to what I want to say or whether I need some kind of hook to catch the reader.</p>

<p>I'm assuming the latter, however, either way I also need help cause I'm not sure what kinds of techniques I can use to bring the reader in without wasting too many words.</p>

<p>Please help me out on this.</p>

<p>In most essays, especially short ones, you want to start your essay with what is known as a “hook” an introduction that makes the reader want to read more. Sometimes you may not write your first paragraph first. You may write more of the body of your essay then the “hook” comes to you later.</p>
