Is Stony Brook at top college ? Tier 1? Impressive ?

Is Stony Brook impressive at all, especially for medical students ? Its ranked number 88 for best national universities , so does that mean its a top university, tier 1 , tier 2 or what ?

SUNY is not as strong a university system as many state systems. It lacks a flagship campus and there are about 64 SUNYs. Of the 64 institutions, the 4 university centers are probably best for graduate programs and Geneseo is probably the best place to go to college if you are limited to SUNY. It simply doesn’t come close to flagships of most other states. Of the 4, Stony Brook is probably the strongest for science and humanities. SUNYs provide an efficient inexpensive degree. The top schools are the ones on this site that are listed as such. SUNYs are simply not in that class. It isn’t a top university but it is an ok one. There is nothing wrong with a degree from SUNY.

No it is trash. Okay, jk. Tier 1… I thought tier 1 is Ivy League. Back to topic:
Go there and transfer out, NO.
Go there as freshman, YES.
Go there as medical student, everyone is pre-med here, MAYBE.
Academically, it is great, students are competitive.
Bottom line is, there are just so many other things in Stony Brook that suck.
They always have good ideas in adding services here and there. But they never done it completely. They are just a bunch of half ass.
