I am currently a rising senior and I am highly considering Stony Brook as one of my top choices. I am planning to become a surgeon in the future, and I need some opinions on whether Stony Brook would be a good fit for my academic needs. I have done personal research and Stony Brook is known to be an excellent school for the field of science but I would like some personal opinions.

try the Stony Brook forum, OP. and do consider more than one school.

Oh definitely, thank you jkeil911

You don’t mention your residency, but if you are interested in SB in any part because you are in state, please also take a look at SUNY-Geneseo.

There are many, many schools that have good science reputations. Give us a little more information about your academic record, major interests, geographic considerations, residency, budget, etc., and we can can probably suggest some other schools that would serve you as well.

Best of luck to you.

Hey,
I’m a senior from Nebraska. I am in the process of applying to Stony Brook, actually just waiting on my recommendations to be submitted. I am very involved in numerous and well rounded activities, but not the greatest ACT or GPA, (22, 3.0) What are the chances of my acceptance considering my complete resume?

Don’t hijack the thread ^please. You need to create your own thread with all this information.

If you’re from Nebraska, there are lots of East Coast colleges that would be accessible to you and less commuter than Stony Brook - you’d probably be rather lonely on weekends and even in the evenings, when a large number of students aren’t around. I second the suggestion of Geneseo as a better alternative for someone from the Midwest, but the low ACT will be a problem (average ACT at Geneseo is around 28).
What do you like about Stony Brook?
Are you retaking the ACT in December?
What is your parents’ budget and can they meet their EFC?
