I took Psych 001 at a community college this summer and today is my final. I've excelled in the class, consistently scoring the highest on tests and projects. Do you think my instructor can write a good recommendation only by mentioning what she does know about me, which is almost all from tests and our group semester research project, which I did great on.

Please give me your opinions on whether or not this recommendation from a professor will be beneficial to applying to top private schools like USC and Stanford. Thanks!

P.S. If you think this recommendation is a good idea, how should I go about asking her, and would would be the proper procedure for her to submit the letter? Thanks again! :)

How long have you known this professor? It doesn’t sound like it has been for very long. Colleges generally want recommendations from a teacher that really knows the applicant well and can attest to their abilities and character. I am not sure if the Common App specifies this, but I saw on an application for an internship that you should only get recommendations from teachers you have known for at least 6 months, which I think is good advice to follow. Colleges may not take a recommendation seriously if the teacher is only basing his/her opinions on a 1-2 month span.

Ask your professor. If she doesn’t feel that she knows you well enough to write this kind of letter, she will tell you.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
