Ask a teacher who you have had for only 1 semester for a recommendation?

Is that necessarilly a bad idea? I had the teacher in my junior year...

I did it. It didn't seem to hurt me....

Just as long as the teacher knows you and is able to write a good recommendation, I don't see why not.

well, why not is because colleges typically want a teacher who knows you. if, of course, you've known this teacher academically before the one term, i think it owuld be OK. I'm facing the same problem, and I'm going with asking my calc teacher who moved to california as opposed to hoping a teacher I've only known for a few weeks will write me a good rec.

I did it. I want to major in English, all of my extra cirriculars and awards were English/Lit, but I hated my junior year English teacher, my sophomore year teacher wasn't great, and freshman year was reaching too far back, but I really thought my app needed an English rec, so I asked my senior English teacher after knowing her for only a few months. It's definitely a risk. She was glad to help. As a disclaimer, I would only ask a teacher you've known for such a short time if you have clearly excelled in the class in that month or two. If you've done well (high grade, but you don't stand out at it) I would rethink it).
If you do ask such a teacher, I think a resume is even more important when asking for a rec.
