Is switching from a CSU to a CC to a UC or Private college bad?

Does it look bad to the admissions office?

Where in this chain are you now? are you a former CSU student now attending a CC, hoping to apply for transfer to a UC or Private?

I’m still in a CSU.

You can go to a CC and then transfer to a UC with little issue. Keep in mind that your grades from your CSU will follow you, and that having attended a four year university in the past will cap the number of units you can transfer to a UC

I did that and it was the best decision in my life. But I got pretty lucky so good luck.

No, it doesn’t look bad provided that you have kept your grades up. However, you do have some limitations. For example, various TAG agreements don’t allow you to have any 4-yr units. Also, you need to keep your total UC transferable units (from both the CSU & the CC) under a certain number which is dictated by each UC individually. Otherwise you will be considered a Senior transfer, which has a 0% acceptance at most of the UCs and a lower acceptance rate at others (since Junior transfers receive acceptance priority).

what is wrong with csu’s?

mediocre education and no classes available

seems pretty reasonable for a school dedicated to mediocre students.
