Help? Transfering from a CSU to a CC?

Hello I recently got admitted to csula, I am a freshman but I have some problems with my finacial aid I received and now transfering to a cc is one of my options:
Can you transfer to a cc in your first year?
Will my credits transfer as well?
Im planning to transfer to a UC if I end up going to collage, will transfering from a Csu to a cc look bad in my application?

Somebody who has done this before can you please give me more details?
Please I really need help.

Just go there, there is no need to transfer.

Talk to your counselor, but I’m pretty sure that once you go to a CC it’s not really considered a transfer. You don’t transfer higher level courses into a lower level school per se, its just seen as dropping out of CSU then forced to take CC courses then applying for acceptance to transfer back in when you have 60 units. It won’t look bad on a UC application, if you get excellent grades in both the CSU and CC, it will be clear that it was a financial decision. If you completely bomb your first semester it will look like you can’t handle uni, but even so, getting great scores in CC will redeem you anyway.

Yes thank you so much for that advice,

first question is, what do you mean by just go there? isn’t there a way that I could transfer? With the credits I am taking here? for those who have done it how does it work?

The thing Is I had considered dropping out of the university and just apply to the CC, that I wanted to go, but there is two problems with it first, my family does not support me with that decision and they want me to at least do this quarter and then transfer, and also this quarter is already paid for, the last day to drop out was yesterday, and If I drop out now I am terribly scared that it will leave a negative impact on my record.
Another thing,

So the courses I am taking here will not be counted at the CC? because Then now I am even more confused with my decision?
finally, I know someone who just dropped out of their CSU as well, but instead of going to a CC, she is Applying to UC’s, and just wait until they accept her this summer.
what do you think about that? could that maybe be an option for me as well? because I truly do want to attend a UC, or do you think the safest route for me would be to finish my GE at the CC?

also more info on me is, I am currently taking English 101s and English 100, COMM 150, and Math 89, also its barely my second week here, I am a freshman, and I don’t like it here. also my major is Animation, which in this school is transfers as Arts and letters. please if any one has more information please share, I am in major confusion, and despair.

Thank you so much, and I will be waiting for any response.

UC’s only accept transfers with 60 semester or 90 quarter units so you need to stay at your current school for 2 years or switch to a CCC and take classes there for 2 years. Advantage at a CCC is that you can use TAG for 6 of the UC’s and transfer with the guarantee if you meet all the requirements. When is the official drop date? If you drop your classes now, only W’s will be on your transcript which are not detrimental to your chances to transfer later.

@Catstoto I believe that’s true, you cannot transfer to another university without the minimum # of units as @Gumbymom says… I agree with your parents, finish the term because you can’t get that money back and Ws wouldn’t help anything. If you’re taking these classes, of course they will transfer back into the university system since they are university system courses, but sometimes CC have different requirements/prereqs to get into THEIR courses

For example, my CC requires I take college algebra to get into Chemistry 101 but the CSUs I’m applying to allow you to get into the course with only Statistics done with a C or better. Things like that may affect what you choose to enroll in at CC.

So… anyone can get into CC, that’s a good back up plan. If you can finish the term with excellent grades, then leave, then finish the rest of your 60 units at CC and apply you’ll have a great chance of getting into your desired school.

@shellebelle212 @Gumbymom

thank you! yes I also agree with you two Yes Well my deadline to dropping out if the school was in October the 8th. I will stay here and finish the classes I have now but My question was if the courses I am taking now would be transferable to my CC I will contact them today, because to my believe, they have a spring semester starring in January and my CSU quarter ends in December, yes I will try to get A’s in all my classes, Also @Gumbymom I wanted to know more about TAG? so far I haven’t heard of that. Thank you so much for your output. Again if you Girls know any more info I kindly ask to please share, and even tho this is a big mess, and It would not be easy, everyday I feel more confident that I can make it.
