Is taking 5 AP Classes (2 AP Science) Junior Year too much?

Next year I was planning to take the following courses:

AP Language
AP Environmental Science
AP Physics [1]*
AP United States History
AP Calc AB.
Symphonic Orchestra

(I’m going to take Pre-Calc the summer before I take AP Calc AB. Also, I was going to take AP Bio but I heard that has a lot of homework and with the double sciences I think I’ll save that for Senior Year). I am a very well-rounded student and do very well in Science and Math, do well in English as long as I do the homework, and am okay at history so I believe I’m okay. I plan to major in science hence the double sciences.

*Since we can’t edit posts I made a new one to explain the AP Physics class will be AP Physics 1

Honestly, you should be okay if the other AP Lab Science is AP Environmental Science; however, is there any chance you can let us know what type of AP Physics you are planning on taking next year? If you’re doing AP Physics 1, I think you’ll be completely okay, but if it is C, I would proceed with caution. From what you’ve told us, it seems like you’ll be fine in these courses, so I wouldn’t worry too much about them.

Best of luck and have a good day!

How many AP classes that a can successfully take is dependent on the academic skills, motivation, available time, and many other factors that only the student, a GC and perhaps teachers should assist in making this decision. I do suggest that you think about the reading and writing loads of potential classes, the number of math or academic beasts, personal interests, strengths and weaknesses and so on. Your goal is learning the content of the classes rather than bagging a number of credits to impress ACs.

No foreign language? Have you already completed level 4 or the highest level available in your school?

@NerdyOtaku I completely agree with @zannah, the difficulty of your schedule is dependent on many factors. I would definitely recommend you take AP Physics 1 and AP English Language if the teachers are competent in teaching their classes. Ask other people for their honest opinion of the AP class. Is orchestra important to you? Are you the a section leader for your instrument? Colleges like to see commitment to students’ passions and interests and if orchestra is not truly integral to your happiness and interests then it would be best if you did not take it. I would not recommend AP Environmental, if you are not interested in biodiversity or ecological processes. I would instead recommend AP Chemistry since you are good at science and if you would be interested in pursuing the sciences in your future years of education. Understanding chemistry will be essential for a career in that subject. AP US History is quite challenging and requires lots of time so unless the teacher is proficient in teaching the subject and you are interested in history, it would be wise not to take it. As for Calc AB, it would be best if you take precal during your junior year. Although I’m not saying your shouldn’t take precal in the summer, you do need to relax and reward yourself for your academic efforts in order for you to be completely refreshed once junior year arrives. Your performance in Calc is dependent on how well you understand Precalculus (hence its name) and if you do not take the time to fully understand precal, Calc might be very difficult for you, even if it’s AB. Junior year is critical to college admissions and scholarships and you cannot afford to be too stressed or distracted. You seem like a motivated and intelligent student and you’re being wise asking for feedback. Good luck!
