Is taking 7 AP exams at one time a good idea?

Hi,

I'm currently considering taking 7 AP exams even though my school only offers one AP class for senior year, does anyone think that this is a good idea?

Here's what I'm planning to take:

Gov't and Politics
European History
World History
Biology
Chemistry
Pyschology
English

well, on one hand, it's senior year, so you've already been accepted to your college, so if you do pass them all, it's just extra credits possibly. however, if you are planning on indepent study for the other 6 tests, good luck. your april will be a living study hell while the rest of your 'mates get senioritis
they aren't cheap to take though, so if you aren't fully prepared... plus you're more likely to score higher if you have less of them to study for

Blah, 7 AP exams? That's not too bad in terms of testing time--I took 15 90 to 150 minute exams this past May and survived so you can too. The only problem is study material. Seven subjects is a good bit, but IB students have to do the same so if they can so can you. Govt is a breeze. Chem you can probably wing it and get a 4 if your good at science and pay attention. History and Psychology pose the largest problems from what I understand.

Wow, Sephiroth226! You took 15 exams? That's a LOT of dough that went to Collegeboard. 15 x 82 = $1,230

Interesting that you say history and psychology pose the largest problems...most people think psychology is the easiest AP to self-study. I guess you're a math/science person then?

Honestly, I would take like 5. I don't think you should take two "history" APs because you may get credit for only one history course at whichever college. Also, I'm not sure if every college accepts AP Psych.

I, personally, think that 5 is a good amount to do, but 7 may be a bit too much.

Don't waste your time taking AP Psych AND AP Govt and Politics AND AP World History--they're all crappy APs that will eat up your study time. Bio and Chem require a LOT of studying (I'm not saying they're difficult. I'm just saying that, especially for Bio, you're going to have to retain a lot of information.) I doubt you will be able to juggle massive memorization (AP Bio) AND 3 history APs. Cut the fluff.

"Wow, Sephiroth226! You took 15 exams? That's a LOT of dough that went to Collegeboard. 15 x 82 = $1,230 "

I took 15 exams, but they were IB. Each IB class requires 2 to 3 exams at the end of the course (1 or 2 year) and is about 90 to 150 minutes per exam. I took: IB History HL, Physics HL, English HL, Math HL, Spanish SL, Govt AP, Econ AP. HL is a two year course, SL is one.

I was just saying that if I could take that many tests (It was damn exhausting and by AP Econ I just didn't care anymore and wrote a letter to my grader and drew pictures hehe...) so could he.

More than one history at a time is a bad thing I think.. Lots and lots of memorization..

why don't you ask us this in December while you're struggling through finals and the workload of 7 APs. Then ask yourself if you really want to do this.

You don't have to take any exams if you don't want to. Colleges will have accepted you anyhow.

Meh. I had 7 APs and I ended fairly well.

hmmm.... i'd say, since these wouldn't be for admissions anymore, study only what you don't want to study again in college.

I'm taking 7 as well next year. I'm not too worried though because as long as I keep my average high first semester, the hard courseload will overall benefit me in admissions. I just hope that because this courseload is tough my GPA doesn't drop more than a a couple points otherwise it'll hurt me...

Be a little more strategic about it. By spring of senior year, you should have a good idea of what college you will attend. Take the AP exams that will give you college credit (not all are accepted) and can save you money and time. For top schools, you will need good scores, so spreading yourself too thin will just defeat the purpose.

Its not bad, i took 6 this year

Physics B
Calc BC
US Govt
English Language
Euro History
Statistics

and got 5's on all but English, felt like i could have handled a few more

It isn't about handling many APs for me...it's a money issue.

My friend was a senior this year, she took 7 AP's, and got six 5's and one 4 (in spanish!). It's definitely do-able, maybe not the best idea if you're involved in a lot of extracurriculars or jobs or something, though!

That's pretty good did you committed 75% of most of your year studying?
