Is taking the ap test a good idea in this situation?

I have apush right now and my teacher said he now got his masters degree, so he is qualified as a college professor now. He said that now our apush class was the equivalent of an actual college level class now that he is articulated (don't know if that's the right word or not). He says that now as long as we pass the class then we are guaranteed college credits at most colleges. So does this mean taking the ap test for the class is kind of pointless? I would really be happy if I didn't have to take the test since I already have 3 other ap's to worry about.

I’m pretty sure you misunderstood what your teacher said to the class. Just because he has a Master’s degree, it doesn’t change the status of your high school AP History class. It is still a high school class. You will get college credits for the class only if the college you attend in the future accepts AP credits for that particular class based on your AP Test Score.
Yes, you still have to take the AP Test to be considered for college credits in the future.

You are not guaranteed college credits because your teacher earned a Master’s degree. In our state, all public school teachers must have their Master’s degree (or earn it within 2 years of being hired).

This is probably the funniest thing I’ve read on this forum.

That’s sad. But still, funny.

hahahahahahaha, what if your teacher has a Ph.D?

I will find out from him how exactly this works. I did not say that just because he got his masters the class status has changed. Im not that stupid.

Guarantee you guys the topic creator misheard the teacher.

I’ve never heard of an accredited teacher… haha

I don’t know that I understand. Your teacher said that, basically his high school class will now be considered a college/dual credit type class?

I don’t know the rules. But, are you in some sort of special situation (not a traditional high shcool?). Because my D is taught by people with Masters and Doctorates and that is definitely NOT the case. She has an English Lit AP teacher with a masters from Harvard (and the same last year for Eng Lang.), but she has to take the AP test for any possibility of college credits.

Contact college board, your one or more of the colleges in which you’re interested in applying.

OP,
just step back and think for a moment…if colleges gave credit for AP classes without requiring students to take the AP exam, just because the teacher of the class had a masters degree…virtually no students would have to take the AP exam. And objectively you know that it is not the case.

At my sons’ high school, they do not hire teachers before their masters is completed. Fully 25% of the teachers also have ph.ds.

I assure you all the AP students take the tests.

Maybe your teacher was trying to say that he now is eminently qualified to teach you in such a way that you are guaranteed to do well on the AP exam?
