I got accepted into Tech for the fall 2010 for Mechanical Engineering and was wondering if anyone who currently attends or knows about the Engineering department can give me some insight about a typical engineering student, the work load, etc.

Tech is a great school, you will get a job coming from almost any school with a degree in Engineering.

UT and A&M are ranked higher but the top 10%(now 8) keeps thousands of kids out of those schools each year. Go to Tech if you dont like it transfer

Texas TECH has always been a good engineering school, and I suspect it always will be. I got a Pet. E. degree there 28 years ago and it has served me quite well.

You will find that the ME’s at Tech are very similar to the ME’s at UT and A&M. Except Tech has always had a reputation for graduating more “practical” engineers. Employers love Tech engineers. (FWIW, the Chairman of the Board of General Motors is a proud Tech engineering grad.)

Work load at Tech will be heavy for an ME student. But engineering is that way at every college. Nature of the beast.

Plus, Tech has the nicest campus among the three you’ve mentioned, and great weather for most of the year. Further, the average Red Raider is much friendlier and less haughty than your average Aggie or T-Sipper.

Obviously, I’m biased. But you can’t go wrong with Tech.
