Is the Co-Op program worth the expensive price?

It's decision time for me and Drexel ended up being my most expensive school by $12K. Looking for some opinions on the Co-Op program.

Here is cost of other schools:

I just read through your other post, and I think you’re doing an excellent job of considering all factors. I’m a Drexel undergrad, so I’ll give you my two cents:

While it’s good that you have so many different factors in your pro/con list, not all of it is really as important as you may think. This is all based on my personal experience and what I see from my friends as well:

  1. Don’t worry about the weather. All the schools you applied to are NJ/PA/NY area schools. While RIT and Ithica definitely are colder, don’t let that stop you from choosing them. At a certain point, 20 degrees begins to feel the same as 0 degrees.
2)Don’t worry so much about location (usually). Unless there’s some reason that you are planning to be home for most weekends (A job, family needs you home, etc), 1.5 hours away might as well be 3 hours away. You’ll quickly find that going home isn’t nearly appealing or as easy as you think it will be, especially as a film major, where a lot of your work will be group projects that you will likely need time off on the weekends to meet with each other and complete.

Now, when it comes to the subject of Drexel.
The Co-Op program is amazing. To graduate with 6-18 months (1 co-op vs 3 co-op) of REAL work experience (not just an internship) is invaluable. That being said, I understand why you are hesitant; with such a difference in price, is it really worth it?

The short answer is, maybe. Drexel has a great reputation in many fields; Whether or not film, or photography, is one of them, I couldn’t tell you. I’d encourage you to do some research in that aspect; while RIT and Drexel are both great schools for STEM and technical professions, their art programs might not be all the same. If you can, talk to people in whatever industries interest you. Email them if you find them online. Find out what they think about each school’s respective program.

One thing I do want to warn you is that Drexel is not a school to go to if you have no idea what you want to study. While you do seem to have an idea, Drexel is a very fast-paced school, and because of the Co-Op program, you don’t have very long to figure out what you want to study, without spending extra time in school.

If you have any other questions about Drexel specifically, please ask. Definitely go to every Open House and Accepted Student’s Day you can, for every school.
