I need to pick a College!

Ok, I am down to two colleges now. Rutgers and Drexel. I want to be in Philly and I like Drexel’s Campus. However, Rutgers has a better computer science program(my intended major) and better academics overall. My dad also works near Rutgers so I would have easy access to go home on a whim. I like Drexel’s Co-op program but I don’t know if it is worth no summer breaks/sacrificing the better education. My parents agreed to pay the money for Rutgers, and would pay for the cost of Rutgers if I go to Drexel. Please help. I need your opinions, both negative and positive for both schools. Thank you so much.

Oh yeah, and I live in New Jersey so we would get in state tuition for Rutgers. Also I got into the Honors Program at Rutgers.

And I really like the learning communities at Drexel. (Sorry for all the replies I am just thinking of these as I go)

How would you pay the difference if you chose to go to Drexel?

Through the money I made throughout the Co-op program and student loans (also received some scholarships), each 6 month co op averages about 16,000 dollars, so that would cover a significant amount.

What’s the exact price differential between Rutgers and Drexel? What is Drexel offering you in terms of student loans?

As far as distance from home, Drexel is like an hour away from Rutgers. I can see distance being a concern if you were 3+ hours away, but come on.

They are both offering 5,500 in unsubsidized loans, and Drexel gave me a scholarship, but the yearly overall price of drexel with housing is 64,000 a year while rutgers is 28,000. However the price of rutgers will be covered by my parents luckily.

Go to Rutgers, it has way more pros according to your own admission.

Well, Drexel is unaffordable then. Since your parents agreed to cover the costs of Rutgers no matter where you go, that’s 64,000 - 28,000 = $36,000. You cannot just “find” that much money… especially not every year, even with the co-op (keep in mind that during co-op you’ll need to pay for housing, food, electricity, etc.)

Go to Rutgers, you are being short sighted here, you will hate not being free after your graduation and having all your money go to loans. That is way too much. You know Rutgers is a better choice, everything you listed shows it. Resist this crazy prejudice against Rutgers. You can also work an internship in the summer and pocket the money instead of paying tuition. Hell you could work for summer plus a semester if you wanted to.
