What do we do that Friday when we go up for the first time?

Im just wondering, because I just hate that I have to go up that day. I'm a camp counselor, at a day camp that goes for 8 weeks, and orientiation happens to start on the LAST day of the camp. And to get up there, I'd have to leave the night before. I REALLY would want to stay that last day to be able to see the kids the last day, etc, and also of course to make sure I get the tips lol.

But anyways, it said that it is important to make all of orientation? Would I really be missing much if I came up the next morning? Is that not allowed at all?

I think the only thing you’d miss is not knowing who is your Orientation Group Leader is, since you’ll have to meet up with him/her again during the week.
I just remembered, I think you have to get your ID and check in that day too.

Other than that, you can still get your keys from the RA the next day. I think if you miss the Check-In at Barton Hall, you could get your ID at Day Hall the next day.

I think it’s best to be there. You’re embarking on a wonderful life experience and lots of information gets shared at the start. My suggestion is to plan a wonderful going away event for your campers the day before the last day - do something special to signify how important the experience was for you and your campers. It could be a special game, a hand-made note or card for all or each one of them, a special food, a sharing circle or something that lets the campers know how special they were to you. Then I’d head for the Cornell orientation so that you get a good start meeting people, getting your room ready, and learning all about the University. Best of luck whatever you choose.

well a couple of things…
1-You won’t have any help from the OLs and Movers&Shakers to move your stuff to your dorm. It will also take longer because you will also not know how to get to your room depending on which side of the building you’re living in.
2-Miss RA
3-Miss OL and other students in OL group
4-Miss signing up for swimming test if haven’t already
5-Miss picking up a folder (from what I can remember) that had a bunch of info for you

Maybe that was more than a couple of things. But considering all that, it may not be too bad…hope that helped :)

Miss the first day of orientation. You won’t lose anything if you do. The whole first week is a really hectic time, and it doesn’t really matter in the long run what you do or don’t do.
