Since this is my first time around the block, I'm struck by just how dead the forum is post April 11th. Is it usually this quiet?

Perhaps some cc’ers are away for spring break? I do not know the actual reason for this lull and I do not recall if it was this way last year…

Yes, this is the normal lull until things pick up again over the summer.

No news to discuss until there is movement in the Wait Lists

Yeah, normal lull. Wounds being licked, hopes being nursed, plans being made.

In a month or so kids will start getting placement tests and dorm questionaires and you’ll see about a dozen threads about which dorms are the best and flexibility in math and language placements, etc.

But right now, Parlabane is spot on.

Haha, neato, you made me nostalgic. Good luck to your daughter!!

I agree with all of the above postings…7dad, I think another word to add is “crashing.” Whether you had good news, bad news, hanging in limbo, it is all a brain drain for families, as everyone still has to kick it into high gear to finish off the busy second semester papers, concerts, etc. CC gets busy again in a few weeks. Also, I think so many more have applied this year, and so many more are waitlisted, which is why other threads are a bit quiet this year–but before you know it we will be in the thick of hearing about rolling admissions, last minute decisisions, threads about dropping kids off etc, lessons learned, as the next batch of applications start to be printed out and ready for families in September…I think you might be missing some of the “amazing race” game to all of this…It really does have that feeling, doesn’t it:)

I feel since most people have made in into boarding school or waitlisted at some, they don’t find the need to go on anymore. For me, I used CC during the process to give me hope, answer my questions, ect… But, now since the process is over, and for the most part I know what school I am going to, I occasionally check in to see if there are any interesting posts on CC. But, I don’t usually comment anymore, but I just look at what other people think. This is my first year going through the whole year on the forum and I believe I will still check in occasionally next year. Because I feel what really gave me hope was when current boarding school students said I can make it into the school they go to. Also, I feel like then I will be able to answer questions coming from prospective students. So why is it so quiet? Well this is because everyone is taking a break, choosing a path for the future. They are trying to figure out what is going to happen with there waitlist or acceptance…
:)

Some of us are suffering through the annual “writing of the deposit” and “10-pay, 2-pay or lump sum” sticker shock. And we’re having a moment of silence in deference to our friends that are still in limbo. :(

I keep checking in, hoping to see good news from the waitlisted…

@All: Believe me, I’m going through my own “What have we gotten ourselves into?” phase right now…thinking things like “It’s the last few months with our first born living at home”, and looking back at all the time, money, and effort spent on the search/visits/application process. [Sigh.]

And perhaps I spoke too soon, as I see someone has already posted a question about course selection at Exeter.

Wait until you write her school address and phone number in your address book. That’s when I realized how radical what we were doing was.
