Because people don’t want to get too involve in other countries. You heard them saying no American foot in Egypt during the uprising. Of course, that was a militaristic option though. If the US tried to take in refugees than other countries would get upset, and it would lead to a military operation.

Canada’s already taking in refugees and no one is upset… I don’t think any country is impulsive enough to let that lead to military operation.

Hey, we might be taking in a refugee (not of genocide) from China. And I doubt China would do much.

No, I’M not the one who’s been saying that, am I? I am saying you can’t compare this to the wholesale destruction that was the Holocaust. In today’s world of mass media and social networking, we would have probably known sooner, just like we’d probably know if this was a genocide-level situation.

No, it’s the worst option. And most other options will be limited in effectiveness.

Sub-Saharan Africa is already in economic duress enough, and their economic ties to the US as opposed to with China and Russia are fairly low. And the Middle Eastern countries? You know and I know that, unfortunately, our dependence on oil precludes any such action.

My sentiment exactly, the UN is ineffective at MANY things.

As said before, this is a very rarely enforced, arcane law, not mass murder. I agree that we could accept those who are under direct threat, but accepting every sexual minority is impractical at best. Also, there’s the whole “Why do they have to come HERE?” argument. It’s not that I’m an isolationist or anything, but the US has a bad record with refuge rights, conditions for refugees are much better in Western Europe and Canada. While we can fix that, it would take a while and wouldn’t address the other issues.

I maintain that doing what we can to spur INTERNAL action is the best possible choice.

All I have to say is there is too many naive and uninformed people on this thread who do not understand international relations at all. Just look at Saudi Arabia, if we go and tell them to stop or whatever you guys suggest, they will f us over. USA will crash because of our dependence on Saudi Oil. The government does what it wants. Ex. War on Terror doesn’t exist, our government funds terrorism today because we need to keep an ally with Pakistan. This is why common people aren’t qualified to make political decisions. All of you people are good at heart when you state your opinion, but you are just not informed enough to have one. Sorry for the rant, its just frustrating how often I see this.

Descuff…I just…I have no words.

^Exactly how I feel.

.____. Someone create a thread about World War 3 and then I will take thing more seriously.

What are you saying???

Read post number twenty-eight.

Descuff, can I ask where you go to school?

Descuff, that’s what he/she is asking about. Frankly, no one as any clue what you’re talking about. About the butterfly, about not being serious until someone brings up WWIII…

I don’t even know where to begin asking questions.

El, I have no internet right now and I can’t get on tc on my phone.

Oh alright! It’s good.

And Descuff, I have a question.

Why is it hard to take this issue seriously?

^I’m afraid I’m going to have to refer you to the questions thread.

Unfortunely, can’t answer that here.

People complaining about stuff without offering a solution.

Isn’t that what you’re doing as well?

No because that was an observation.

You didn’t offer a solution when you said it doesn’t affect us so it doesn’t matter.

Ignoring what’s going on isn’t solving anything. And descuff, you are an enigma. Like are you a person?
