So I'll cut to the chase. I have an internship doing B2B sales, 70 hours a week, Monday thru Saturday. It's a commission based internship, which means that if I have a tough day, I'm not making money. In addition, it requires me to drive an average of 100 miles per day.

I have an offer to work at a restaurant, which would be about the same amount of money each week, but it'd be 30 hours instead of 70 hours, and it would give me a lot of flexibility during the day (I also have an on-my-own-time research job) to get work done.

The question I have is, therefore, is it worth it to stick it out at the internship? For what it's worth, I am not sure I want to go into sales anyway...in fact, chances are that I am going to go to law school the year after next.

If you are going to law school, then you don’t internship. This doesn’t sound like an internship, it sounds like commission sale to me. Frankly, as a new person you probably would be able to close that many sales and you would be wasting your time. My vote is to not do the “internship,” and have more time for other activities.

What makes it an internship and not just a job? In my mind, internships either relate to your career path (paid or unpaid) or they give college credit.

If it’s just for the money, then its a job. If it helps you qualify for something, then its an internship.

You sound like you hate it. So, if it is just for the money, go for the restaurant job.

The iternship sounds horrible and it sounds like you are not that into it anyways. Do not just do it if it will look good on your resume if it is going to make you miserable
