Is this internship really worth it?

Hi, all.

I was miraculously offered an internship with MTV this semester. I've wanted to intern with the company since I started college, so I was pretty excited when I found out. However, there has been pretty huge financial problems in my family lately (thank you, recession) and now I am unsure whether I should do the internship. It would require me travelling 1.5 hrs, one way, twice a week to NYC and the costs of public transportation would add up fast. It puts a strain on me since I work a minimum wage job and have to buy groceries, books, cover other living expenses + help out my family (low income background).

The internship is unpaid and no stipend is given for the transportation.

Is this internship worth the financial burden?

Perhaps you should talk to someone who had the internship before and ask them what doors it opened and what they learned… If it’s a real internship and not just filing for free then take it and sell your TV or blood… Good luck -

Are you serious? Take it.

Thanks to both of you. I talked to some people who did it and it seems worthwhile. I took it. Now I just have to find some local blood banks to sell my plasma… ;P

glad ur gonna do it…definitely the right choice as the opportunity costs are well worth it in the long run
